What makes a lug butterfly valve different from a wafer type?
Lug bodies carry threaded lugs that bolt each flange to the valve independently, so one side of the line can be dismantled while the valve stays in place and holds isolation. Wafer bodies are only clamped and do not provide that capability. The benchmark lug execution spans DN40 to DN300; above that range wafer and double-flanged bodies take over on weight and economy.
Is SS316L the right execution for my service?
The benchmark page lists SS316L among body options alongside carbon steel, cast iron and ductile iron. SS316L (low-carbon 316) is selected for corrosive media and for installations with field welding, where the low carbon avoids weld-zone sensitization. What information is needed to quote an SS316L lug butterfly valve?
Provide nominal diameter (DN40 to DN300), pressure rating (PN10 to PN40 or Class 150), body and disc material, seat lining against the medium, operation (lever, gear, electric, pneumatic), and the mating flange standard (ASME B16.5 or DIN 2501 on the benchmark page).
