Choose ductile iron over cast iron when the line sees pressure surges, traffic loading or rough handling - the same DIN envelope with a stronger body. The stainless stem on the benchmark page defines the wetted trim; the source page does not declare a seal-ring or seat material for this execution, so the seat compound must be confirmed at quotation rather than assumed. Ductile iron vs cast iron gate valve - is the upgrade worth it?
Ductile iron has substantially higher tensile strength and elongation than grey cast iron, which shows up as better resistance to cracking from water hammer, ground movement and impact. For the same DIN 3352 envelope and connection dimensions, ductile iron is the conservative choice for pumping stations, buried mains under roads and any line with surge risk; grey cast iron remains economical for static, low-stress service.
What seat or seal does this valve close on?
The benchmark page declares body, bonnet, disc and stem materials but does not declare a seal-ring or seat material for the ductile iron execution - the cast iron sibling lists stainless steel and brass seal rings.
