Rising Plug Gauge Valves

Rising plug gauge valves use a soft-seated, straight-through rising-plug trim instead of a needle stem, so dirty or viscous media can be rodded through and the seat resists clogging — gauge isolation for severe oil and gas, chemical and power service with high vibration and pressure/temperature cycling. The range covers working pressure up to 6000 psig (413 bar), -53°C to 315°C service, Cv up to 1.65, orifice sizes 0.187 and 0.250, bodies and bonnets in 316 stainless steel or Alloy 400, Acetal/PFA/PEEK seats and live-loaded PTFE or PEEK packing. Selection turns on the rodding requirement, seat material against the media, and the locked-bonnet hardware for vibrating installations. Reference sources add the gauge-valve duty frame (isolate, vent trapped pressure, remove or calibrate the instrument), seat-limited rating logic with acetal/PFA/PEEK replaceable seats, non-rotating stem tips on bar-stock bodies, bubble-tight high-pressure execution envelopes, clear-bore rodding, and v-stem/regulating/soft-seat stem-tip options spanning isolation and metering duty.

Family specifications

temperature range -53°C to 315°C (-65 to 600° F)
pressure class up to 6000 psig (413 bar)
valve orifice sizes 0.187, 0.250
flow coefficient up to 1.65
body materials 316 stainless steel, Alloy 400
seat materials Acetal, PFA, PEEK
packing material PTFE, PEEK (with PEEK seat only)
gauge valve function Isolates a pressure gauge, switch or transmitter from the process; trapped pressure can be vented so the instrument is removed, tested or calibrated safely
size and connection example Rising-plug soft-seat executions commonly run 1/2 or 3/4 in. male NPT process inlet with female NPT instrument outlet and gauge ports
seat temperature limits Seat-limited execution envelope: acetal to 250°F; PEEK to 450°F or higher on some designs
replaceable soft seat Replaceable soft seat available in acetal, PFA or PEEK
seat limited rating rule Soft seats limit the valve rating well below the body limit; exact ratings are confirmed against selected size, material, seat, packing and end connections
non rotating stem tip Bar-stock bodies with a non-rotating stem tip keep the seat from being twisted as the valve closes
bubble tight envelope Bubble-tight sealing at 6000-10,000 psi and -40°C to 230°C on high-pressure executions
regenerative soft seat Rising plug valve delivers bubble-tight isolation with a regenerative soft seat
clear bore roddable Clear-bore design allows high flow and precise control and is roddable for easy maintenance
stem tip options Stem-tip choices span v-stem, regulating and soft seat, covering hydraulic and pneumatic applications
metering duty Instrument valves also suit flow-metering duty, maintaining a calibrated and constant low flow rate
product family placement Rising plug valves are offered as the RP series within instrument needle-valve ranges

Scope & source notes

pressure envelope split Pressure envelope split: referenced bubble-tight executions reach 10,000 psi while the tenant page tops at 6000 psig - the upper band belongs to selected seat/body combinations outside the tenant range.
temperature envelope Temperature envelope: referenced -40°C to 230°C bubble-tight execution vs tenant -53°C to 315°C - both are seat-material dependent and the tenant extremes rely on PEEK/graphite builds not evidenced in the referenced execution.
seat limit rule Seat limit rule: acetal 250°F / PEEK 450°F referenced ceilings sit inside the tenant 315°C service claim - the tenant upper band depends on the PEEK build plus packing, not the soft seat alone.
duty framing Duty framing: clear-bore high-flow rodding duty vs calibrated low-flow metering framing - the rising-plug execution spans both, but a single stem-tip choice (v-stem vs regulating vs soft seat) cannot serve both extremes.

Ordering & documentation

Documents

Ask for the documentation set with the inquiry — typical items (material certificates, test reports to the listed inspection standard, dimensional drawings) are confirmed and supplied with the quotation.

Quotation

Send the medium, temperature, pressure, size and connection for a quotation-ready inquiry. Lead time, MOQ and price are confirmed at quotation, together with the documents to be supplied with the order.

Sample & supply

Supply terms, order quantities and lead time are agreed per order — state the destination country and required schedule with the inquiry.

Storage & shipping

Store valves with seats and seals protected from UV, ozone and deformation, and keep end-face protectors on until installation; storage limits and shipping arrangements for the selected materials are confirmed at quotation.
