Size for the bore first — DN50 to DN1400 is trunnion territory, not floating — then the pressure class (Class 150 to 1500 on the benchmark page), then seat selection: PTFE-family and nylon seats for general duty, metal-to-metal for high temperature or abrasive service. Material selection runs from ASTM A105 carbon steel through A182 304/316/L grades to duplex F51 and super duplex F53 for chloride duty. Fire-safe API 607 execution applies in hydrocarbon service. Flange dimensions follow ANSI B16.5 up to 24 inch and MSS SP-44 / ASME B16.47 above.

When do I need a trunnion-mounted ball valve instead of a floating one?
As bore and pressure grow, the line pressure pushing a floating ball against its seat produces seat loads and operating torque that stop being practical. The trunnion design absorbs that load on the trunnions, which is why the benchmark execution spans DN50 to DN1400 and Class 150 to 1500. A common selection boundary: floating executions stay economical at smaller bores, and large-diameter or high-class lines go trunnion. The two are not interchangeable substitutions — confirm the duty case at quotation.
What do the duplex grade options (F51, F53) mean for selection?
The benchmark page lists A182 F51 (duplex) and F53 (super duplex) among body and ball materials. These duplex stainless grades combine higher strength with chloride and pitting resistance, which makes them relevant for seawater, brine and aggressive chloride service where standard 304/316 grades would pit. Choose them against the chloride content and temperature of the medium, and state the grade explicitly in the inquiry so the certificate matches.
What information is needed to quote a forged trunnion ball valve?
Provide nominal size (DN50 to DN1400 range), pressure class (Class 150 to 1500), body and seat material grades, end connection (flanged per B16.5/B16.47 or butt weld per B16.25), operation (lever, gear, pneumatic or electric), plus medium, temperature, and whether fire-safe API 607 execution is required. Add face-to-face limitation if replacing an installed valve.
